PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists is sponsoring free eye examinations for service dogs throughout country during the month of May. More than 20 service-dogs-in-training got their eyes checked today at Penn Vet’s teamed up with professors and Health Professions Scholarship Program awardees at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine to host this day of military working dog handler training. To kick off the morning, Dr. Elizabeth Swanson WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - College students in Williston looking to take a load a paw - because socialization is a significant part of the dogs’ training. Elliot and Buddy are in the process of being trained by the organization to help people with Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation will hold four-week puppy training classes beginning Tuesday “The first class will include an introduction into how dogs learn, how we begin communication with our puppy and setting goals.” Classes will be Elliot, a PTSD and mobility service dog through Service Dogs for America, enjoys the attention from students at Williston State College. The school brought in a pair of service dogs to help relieve student stress during finals week. McCarthy is a junior at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. After graduation she will have a new roommate, her service dog Dewey II. Before landing in McCarthy’s loving and grateful arms, Dewey went through an extensive training .
Like Kenan, the dogs go through three rounds of training: first with children with disabilities to learn to be social with humans, then with specially trained prisoners, and lastly with college students. Finally, they are paired with a veteran.
